The Chuzhao Experiment
This collection of photographs is a compilation of images I took during my last trip to Mexico City using a Chuzhao digital camera I purchased on Amazon (see last image on this gallery). The camera is a digital version of the old German Rolleiflex cameras that came out in the late 1920’s.
After 10 years of doing photography in the streets of Mexico with my Sony camera, I decided I wanted to try something different. I wanted to be challenged and tested with a camera that would bring a new dynamic and style to my street photography.
The Chuzhao camera shoots images at a much lower resolution giving the images a “retro” look, and it shoots images at a 1:1 square ratio format. What sold me on this model was the fact that it is very compact and the fact that the view finder is on top of the camera which I find makes it easier to take images of people because of the fact that people don’t realize that they are being photographed. People are used to seeing cameras and phones being held up to eye level when a picture is being taken. They are not used to seeing someone hold the camera at chest level and looking down.
This gallery is purely experimental, I hope you enjoy the images and I look forward to any and all feedback.
