I wanted to do something different for this gallery. I wanted to get away from my traditional landscape photography and do a little bit of abstract street photography. I must confess that when I started shooting for this project I wasn’t sure what I was suppose to be photographing. It took me a while to find my style and rhythm for what I was trying to accomplish.

I feel that abstract images put the viewer in a position where they have to use their imagination to try to make sense of what they are seeing. It also gives the viewer the ability to interpret each image differently than anyone else and that’s a very cool thing.

All images were shot with a 50mm lens.

Para esta galería me arriesgué a salir de mi método tradicional de la fotografía de paisajes e involucrarme un poco en la foto abstracta-callejera. Confieso que cuando comencé este proyecto no estaba muy seguro qué era exactamente lo que tenía qué captar. Demoré un poco para encontrar el ritmo y estilo para lo que quería lograr.

Siento que las imágenes abstractas ponen a la audiencia en una situación en donde deben recurrir a su imaginación para tratar de descifrar la imagen que está viendo, de tal forma que les permita interpretar cada retrato según su punto de vista, estado de ánimo y emociones que les puede causar cada figura.

Hidden Gem

I’m very surprised that San Luis Potosi is not considered to be a popular tourist destination in Mexico. Apart from having one of the most beautiful historic centers I have seen so far, the city has so much to offer with its history and art.

In this gallery I wanted to showcase a collection of some of my favorite photographs from the early California establishments (most of them being Missions) that are characterized by the adobe that was used to build them.

En esta galería quería compartir algunas de mis fotografías favoritas de los recintos Californianos (su mayoría son Misiones de la Iglesia católica) que se distinguen por ser echos de adobe.

I only had the chance to shoot for two days in the streets of Queretaro. I wish I would of spent more time in this amazing city.

Solo tuve la oportunidad de pasar dos días fotografiando por las calles de Queretaro, lamento que no pase más días en esta increíble ciudad.

Flying to Oahu Hawai’i this year was a bit more complicated do to the COVID-19 prerequisites and restrictions that I had to adhere to in order to be able to visit the Island. Although it was somewhat tedious to do the testing and all the paper work, after I arrived and started taking the first shots with my camera, I knew it was going to be worth the time and the effort to make the trip.

The composition

The city of Avalon in Catalina Island is one of my favorite places to shoot in Southern California. The city is very small and is easy to walk around and access roads to get some shots. Although I’m extremely satisfied with the collection of pictures you see here on this gallery, I must confess that finding the right shots in Avalon has always been a bit of a compositional challenge. Finding the right subject on the island, trying to isolate it, and find the right lighting can be difficult sometimes because of the horseshoe shape of the bay the city sits on. I found a bit of a breakthrough for my composition issue on the island by bringing a drone and getting some shots from the air on my last trip there. The pictures you see here are an accumulation of shots from 3 trips over the last two years.

La ciudad de Avalon en la Isla de Catalina es uno de mis lugares favoritos para tomar fotos. La ciudad es muy pequeña y las calles son muy accesibles para caminar y lograr unas tomas. Aunque estoy muy satisfecho con la colección de fotos en esta galería, debo confesar que lograr buenas tomas en Avalon siempre se me ha sido un reto en cuanto la composición. El buscar un objeto, tratar de aislarlo para que no se vean distracciones, y tener la luz apropiada causa mucha dificultad a veces debido mas que todo a la forma y la geografía en donde se encuentra la ciudad. Encontré una solución para aliviar un poco el problema con la composición en mi ultimo viaje volando un “drone” sobre la ciudad. Las imágenes que ven aquí son parte de la colección de fotografías que eh acumulado de Avalon en los últimos dos años con 3 viajes logrados.

This city is known for its ports of entry for overseas shipments and for its oil fields and refineries. I took it as a challenge to show a different side of this city that would demonstrate that with the right light, this industrial megacity could show its softer side.

Esta ciudad es reconocida por sus puertos de entrada para barcos de carga y por sus pozos y refinerías de petróleo. Decidí tomar el reto de demostrar a través de mis fotografías que (con la luz apropiada) se puede lograr ver un lado mas dócil de esta ciudad industrial.
